Hoping to continue their winning streak as a new team and make it three wins out of three, Stars were determined to win.
Stars eased nicely into their first quarter against Melksham and settled well and with excellent rotation in the attacking circle and accurate shooting from Hannah Dredge and Alice Millard, it meant that Stars took the lead by 18 goals to 10.
In the second quarter, Stars upped their defence through court, applying pressure to Melksham’s passes and with Sheri Pleasants, Sophie Cox and Amelia Pratten turning tips into interceptions, it meant that more opportunities were made for goals. Sophie Garton and Kathy Dredge worked tirelessly in defence, which forced Melksham to make overhead passes. However, Kathy struggled to turn these into interceptions which saw Melksham increase their goal score line, but Frome still had the upper hand at 35 goals to24.
The third quarter saw Garton switch with Kathy into GK and utilising her height advantage, it meant that Melksham were forced to change their game plan. With Garton getting her hands on the ball and with constant support from Kathy and Sophie as C, these were converted into goals. Amelia further offered support with a reset option against a strong Melksham defence. Frome’s lead was extended to 46 goals to Melksham’s 29.
The final quarter was one of the best and with fantastic holding from Hannah and excellent movement from Alice in the shooting circle, both who were awarded players’ player, this utilised their space which meant Sheri and Sophie were able to pass the ball around the circle and not force the pas. Garton and Kathy continued to work hard in defence, minimalizing Melksham’s attacking options which led to interceptions. The final score finished 60 goals to Melksham’s 38.
