A FROME resident has designed and launched the Z-desk standing desk.
Made in Somerset, the desk uses eco-friendly FSC sourced birch ply, and a traditional method of pegged construction. The Z-desk is a sturdy and stable standing desk that requires no tools, nails, screws or glue to assemble or disassemble.
Creator, Gerard Collon said, “Working from home for many has become the ‘new normal’ but this has its own problems in finding a place to work in comfort. The kitchen table is not always the best place to work, there may not be room enough in the spare room for a desk and office chair. The sofa is bad for your back. Even in the office, sitting down all day is known not to be good for you.
“The Z-desk standing desk enables the user to create a workspace wherever they need it. The desk is easy to move and store. Using pegs, one of the oldest joinery techniques, it’s quick to assemble and take down.
“I spent over a decade working from an ‘office’ at home. I found that armchairs, sofas, hard kitchen chairs, were never right. They caused neck and back pain; or I was ‘in the way’. So I started with a wooden wine crate on-top of a cabinet. A few years ago, with my father-in-law, we built a first lean-to desk from scrap wood. Lockdown has allowed me to take the original concept several steps further, and created the Z-desk.”
The Z-desk can be personalised with different desktop sizes, heights and finishes. The grain in the birchwood makes every desk unique, and a stylish addition to the home, office or garden-house.
Costing £250, the standing Z desk is now available to order online at www.z-desk.co.uk
