A new operator has been appointed to run Frome Leisure Centre from 1st July.
Somerset Council has awarded an interim two-year contract to Freedom Leisure after the previous operator, Fusion Lifestyle, went into administration.
Concerns had previously been raised about cleanliness, hygiene and reliability at the centre, with calls for improvements over recent months.
MP Anna Sabine said, “I’m pleased that we finally have some certainty around the leisure centre. I’ll be working with Somerset Council and local residents to make sure it delivers the service they deserve and plan ahead for the longer term.”
Freedom Leisure is a not-for-profit leisure trust which already operates leisure services across Somerset, and will also run centres in Street, Glastonbury, Wells and Shepton Mallet lido.
A Somerset Council spokesperson said the interim arrangement would allow time to assess the facilities in detail before a wider tendering process in 2028, with a long-term contract for leisure provision in East Somerset expected to follow.
Councillor Federica Smith-Roberts, Somerset Council’s Lead Member for Communities, said, “This is an interim contract which allows us to ensure these essential leisure services are provided by an established and trusted local operator, offering stability and quality assurance for schools, residents and other user groups.
“It means that membership, bookings and events can continue seamlessly. It will be very much business as usual.
Freedom Leisure is a not-for-profit leisure trust that manages sports and leisure facilities on behalf of local councils across the UK.
