FROME Community Education is set to launch its Summer Term Programme with courses starting from 22nd April. In addition to its usual range of classes spanning Arts & Crafts, Languages, Health & Wellbeing, and Words & Culture, there are several new courses.
“Last term we advertised in the Frome Times asking if there were any tutors out there who would be interested in running a Current Affairs style class as this is something our students have regularly requested,” explains programme manager, Pia McGee. “We were delighted to hear from Roz Sunley, an experienced higher education teacher, and National Teaching Fellow, who is passionate about engaging with others on the social, political and economic issues of the day.”
Roz will introduce a new 5-week course “Contemporary Issues for Enquiring Minds” with a diverse range of topics including technology, eco-responsibility, global democracy, assisted dying and culture wars – and how these affect life in 2024. Each session of the course will address a different topic and include a short presentation based on current sources as the basis for informal group activities and discussions. No experience or prior knowledge is necessary, but curious, enquiring minds are very welcome!
“Paul Chapman, a regular tutor with Frome Community Education, will make a welcome return with his new course ‘Treasures of the National Gallery, Part Two’. This follows his previous sell out ‘Part One’ course, but can be enjoyed completely independently of the first. Works by Veronese, Van Eyck, Gainsborough, Gentileschi, Monet and others will be examined and celebrated in this introductory look at the iconic paintings and the great artists housed at the National Gallery.
“Both courses are expected to prove extremely popular and students are encouraged to book early to ensure a place.”
