A NEW disco for adults with learning disabilities will kick off next week at ‘Frome’s new venue’ The Wheatsheaves.
Loops Disco is a fun new social and dancing opportunity for the learning disabled community, and will be taking place on Tuesday 10th May from 7.30pm.
Organiser Ben Waller, of Loops Music Project, is a DJ and musician, who has worked for many years with people with learning disabilities in schools, running day services, and supporting and delivering music projects.
Ben said, “There will be a DJ playing music, with lights, a bar, a dance floor and nice people to dance with!
“This will hopefully become the first of a regular monthly event. The £3 entry fee will go towards running costs and supporting the work of Loops Music Project as it seeks to break down barriers faced by people with additional needs when it comes to music making and participation.
“It would be great if people were able to come unsupported as there will be a team of experienced volunteers who love to dance and will be on hand to assist anyone who needs support to use the bar, dance or anything else they might need. However, if people require a support worker, carer or family member to support them, they will be absolutely welcome at no extra charge.”
Loops Disco will be held in a real music and club venue with high quality sound system and lighting. Entry is for those aged 16 and over, and costs £3 per person, with no charge for carers.
