This week at Town Matters councillors gave their consent for a new Information Point at the Black Swan.
The Discover Frome information point will be in one of the studios at the Black Swan for three months from July.
The information point is seen very much as a trial but it is hoped that it will be very popular with residents and visitors alike and if it is successful there is the possibility that it may become a permanent fixture in some way.
Staffed by volunteers it aims is to open on the 8th July, in time for the Frome Festival and will have a whole host of information regarding anything from events to drains, walking in an around Frome to road closures.
There will also be a hotline at the point to the customer advisors at Frome Town Hall for visitors to the service who need more particular information and advice or to buy tickets. This service is seen by the councillors as one aspect of a package of measures to better showcase everything that goes on in Frome – including a more comprehensive Town Guide both in print and on the Discover Frome website as well as the information point.
Led by cllr Jean Boulton, she said, “This information point in the centre of our town is essential to help support visitors and residents alike and therefore businesses and as such to support a vibrant and engaged community. It also helps to provide another link to the expertise that is currently centred at the town hall. I look forward to working toward making it a reality over the next month.”
If you would like to volunteer a little of your time to the information point please call 01373 465757 or email flahertyl@frome towncouncil.gov.uk.
