New national walking network gets thumbs up from town council

SLOW Ways, a new national initiative to create a network of walking routes that connect all of Great Britain’s towns, cities and villages, has received the support of Frome Town Council.

With the help of volunteers across the country, Slow Ways is creating a new website, that is expected to launch in January, which will share walking routes across the country.

A Frome Town Council report said, “As far as possible, routes are direct, off-road, safe, accessible, easily navigable and pass through settlements with services and  public  transport  hubs.  The  Slow Ways network aims to make it easier for people to see, plan, enjoy and share walks between places.”

At a recent ‘Town Matters’ meeting, town councillors voted in favour of formally supporting the Slow Ways initiative; to include Slow Ways within future planning, policies and initiatives; to consider where new paths might strengthen the Slow Ways network; and to encourage members of the public to sign up personally to walk and review a Slow Way via the Walkers are Welcome group.
