FROME’S three junior football clubs have merged, creating one of the largest youth football clubs in the area.
Frome Town Robins, Frome Town Youth and Frome Collegians Youth have made a joint decision to merge to create Frome Town United FC.
The merger will bring together 600 players and 50 coaches and the clubs say that it will offer the young people of Frome the “best facilities and coaching” to help them achieve their goals.
“Financial stability” has also been highlighted as a benefit of the merger.
A joint statement from the three clubs said, “Over the past few years, the whole of Frome has seen growth and changes in all areas of the community and this includes the numbers of children taking part in organised sports. This has seen a growth within the three junior football clubs within the town.
“It has been a long-term ambition of all three clubs to try and bring all of the players, coaches, committees and facilities together under one name. Across the years, there have been a number of stumbling blocks which have prevented this.
“That is until now. The chairmen of Frome Town Youth, Frome Town Robins and Frome Collegians Youth along with other members of the respective clubs, have spent the past few months in dialogue to try and bring all of the teams together. We all feel that the time is right to make the move to become one.
“Frome Town United Football Club will bring the best of all three clubs together and offer the young people of Frome the best facilities and coaching to help them achieve their goals within a football environment.
“The objective of this new club is to offer all girls and boys aged 5-17 the opportunity to play and train at a united club, with a pathway to the clubs we have always held ties with including Frome Town FC, Frome Collegians FC, Mells FC and Frome Town Ladies.
“Frome Town United FC will be entering the Midsomer Norton Youth League, Mid Wiltshire Youth League and Wiltshire Girls League from the start of the 2021/22 season. Whilst the transition will continue behind the scenes, there may not be any obvious changes immediately, and we ask that you continue to communicate with your child’s team manager with regards training and matches as we continue to work around all the relevant Covid restrictions and towards all three clubs joining Frome Town United at the end of the current 2020/21 season.
“We understand over the coming months there will be many questions from players and parents about what this means for them, and we will aim to answer these on a regular basis via club websites, social media and also regular news letters. You can send us any questions to: frometownunitedfc@gmail.com”
