A nursery manager from Frome recently took to the skies, jumping from 10,000 feet in a daring skydive, to raise funds for a sensory garden at her nursery in Nunney.
Sadie Marsh completed the challenge at Old Sarum Airfield in Salisbury on Saturday 16th August, after her husband booked her a place when he heard about it on the radio.
“It was incredible,” said Sadie. “I have always wanted to do it; it was on my bucket list but I had never had a chance to. I was really taken aback when my husband said he booked it; I didn’t believe him.
“You are on the plane for about 10 to 12 minutes but it literally felt like seconds; the instructor then says ‘ready’ and you have no time to think about it before you are freefalling at 125mph. It was phenomenal; you could see bits of the ground under the clouds. The adrenaline was amazing, my mouth was so dry I couldn’t close it. Then the parachute opened and we did a few tricks like spins and swoops before gliding back down to the ground. I would love to do it again.”
Through the skydive, Sadie has so far raised over £500 of her £750 target to fund a sensory garden at her nursery, Little Discoveries, in Nunney.

She said, “Over the last two years our garden has become damaged by the weather and Covid, and with the financial structure of life at the moment, it has become a neglected area. We have also had a lot of children with SEND needs, autism, ADHD, and mobility issues in the last few years, and I want to make a sensory/SEND area that they can feel comfortable and safe in, giving them as many opportunities as possible.
“I have managed to pick up a castle from Facebook; the area we have can be built up, and we have a lovely bark area too. I want to put some solar lights in there, cushions, and some different obstacle course equipment. We are on a school site, so we can use the wider site, but I want to give them the opportunity to do this in our nursery.”
With GoPro footage of the skydive that she can keep, Sadie is looking forward to sharing the challenge with the children. She said, “I have no idea what they are going to say, but I am going to put it on in the nursery so they can see it. I can’t wait to hear what their little comments will be.”
