After a sellout success last month of their collaboration with Bath Cantata, of Elgar’s The Kingdom, fans of Oakfield Choir will be delighted to hear they will again perform in this year’s Frome Festival.
Returning to their usual venue, Holy Trinity Church, Frome, the choir will be performing Mozart’s Requiem on Tuesday 9th July at 6.00pm.
Probably one of the most famous choral works in the classical repertoire, Mozart’s Requiem was, anonymously, commissioned by Count von Walsegg after the death of his wife. Mozart became obsessed with the piece, believing the commission to have cursed him, and that the requiem was in fact for himself as he was about to die. As it was, Mozart did die before its completion, and it was finished by his student, Sussmayr, with Mozart completing only the first few bars of, what is thought by many, the piece’s highlight, Lacrimosa.
Soloists joining Oakfield will be Milly Taylor (soprano), Marie Elliott (alto), Christopher Pelmore (tenor) and Tim Dickinson (bass) and the choir will be led, as always, by musical director, Neil Moore. Organist emeritus of Bath Abbey, Peter King, will accompany the choir on the organ, bringing Mozart’s wonderful score to life.
The performance starts at 6.00pm, on Tuesday 9th July at Holy Trinity Church. Adult tickets £10 from the Cheese and Grain box office. Organisers say, “This promises to be a sell out, so early booking is advised!”
