The garden at a Frome day care service has been transformed thanks to the talents of a local funeral co-ordinator.
Spray painting is not something typically associated with funerals but Thomas Parfitt from The Co-operative Funeralcare in Frome has a remarkable creative flair. Thomas previously spent five days transforming a bus at Hope Nature Centre in Southwick.
But whilst he was there, his talent was spotted by a passer-by who asked if he could help with a new lick of paint at Colliers Court where day services are run by Discovery for adults with learning disabilities and autism.
With the funeral home being part of Southern Co-op, Thomas was able to help the local site through its community engagement programme and it was completed on Wednesday 12 September.
Thomas said: “The focus of the upcycle project was to make the garden area a brighter and more pleasant area for the facility users to engage in garden activities. It is a great local space and it was a pleasure to help out.”
Discovery provides person centred support at Colliers Court for adults with a range of disabilities which reflects their needs and aspirations. The day care centre has a coffee bar on site which is open to customers and members of the public.
Southern Co-op’s community engagement programme ‘Love Your Neighbourhood’ addresses four key social themes – promoting greener, healthier, safer, and more inclusive neighbourhoods. To find out more visit www.southernco-op.co.uk/ makingadifference.
