SAINSBURY’S in Frome welcomed a Paralympic Torch to the store last week, giving local people the chance to get close to the Games.
The Paralympic Torch Experience saw the Torch travel to 40 Sainsbury’s stores across the country in just 10 days. The Torch’s epic journey began at Sainsbury’s Leven on Friday 31st August and ended at the retailer’s Kidderminster store on Sunday 9th September, visiting Frome last Thursday.
Sainsbury’s was one of the main sponsors of the Paralympic Games, which took place from 29th August to 9th September.
Sainsbury’s Frome store manager Ian Chappell said, “We’ve really enjoyed playing our part in raising awareness of the London 2012 Paralympic Games in Frome. For our customers, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance for them to see the Torch and feel the buzz of the Paralympic Games, which we’re proud to be sponsoring”.
The Torch was one of 620 Torches used in the 24 hour Relay which took place from Stoke Mandeville in Aylesbury, the home of the Paralympic Movement, to the Olympic Park in Stratford, London on Tuesday 28th to Wednesday 29th August.
