Plastic Free. Period, a unique collaboration of Frome Medical Practice and Frome Town Council and a part of Green & Healthy Frome, is hosting two events aimed at combating the growing environmental and health concerns associated with disposable period products.
Local people who are curious about simple changes that can have a positive impact on pocket and planet, are invited to a thought-provoking evening at Frome Town Hall on Tuesday 24th September from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.
Those attending will have an opportunity to see and feel modern, plastic-free period and incontinence products, listen to some interesting talks and watch films about the health and environmental impact of disposable menstrual products.
“The bar will be open, so it’s a great opportunity to enjoy a social evening and learn how you can make the switch to a more sustainable, reusable period product,” says marketing and communications officer at Frome Town Council, Laura Hales.
Cllr Fiona Barrows said, “Plastic free period products are healthier, cheaper in the long-term and much better for the planet. We want Frome to continue to lead the way when it comes to thinking differently about sustainability and how we can benefit along with the planet.
“We want to raise awareness about plastic-free period products and encourage people to make the switch by offering a discount of up to 25% from various local and online businesses.”
Senior partner at Frome Medical Practice, Dr Helen Kingston, said, “Being able to give away free plastic free period packs for Frome’s young people on pupil premium and all Year 8 and 9 students thanks to the fantastic support of local people really is something to shout about.
“We have already distributed 110 packs for young people in Frome and delighted to have more to give away at these events. The packs contain three pairs of great-quality period pants from Cheeky Wipes, a reusable pad and a wash bag – a great starter for young people to experience healthier, cheaper and planet friendly periods. We really encourage parents and carers to come along and find out more.”
On Wednesday 25th September from 11.30am to 4.30pm the Plastic Free. Period team will also host a pop-up event outside Ellenbray in the Westway precinct.
Again, there will be an opportunity to explore the environmentally friendly period and incontinence products available, ask any questions, and take part in some fun interactive games.
