The band Phoria, who are managed at Poot Emporium in Frome, have been celebrating a Top 5 single release and have also been recording at the famous Abbey Road Studios.
It’s little known that behind the hotbed of talent that run the designer collective that is Poot Emporium lies an artist management company called ‘Eskimo Music Management’.
Poot opened nearly 10 years ago, the first vintage shop in the town since the 1980s. It was established by Ciara Nolan who moved to Frome following a career in the music industry where she worked with the likes of David Bowie, Shirley Bassey, Hunter S.Thomspon (thus the life size cardboard cut out of him guarding the shop) and Ralph Steadman (which explains why he exhibited at the Black Swan a few years back).
Behind the scenes at Poot, Ciara has been managing the music career of a band called ‘Phoria’ who released their EP ‘Display’ on 16th June. It immediately shot to no.5 in the Itunes electronic chart and saw the band enter the Hypem chart at no.7, they were also the second most blogged about band in the world second only to ALT J!
Ciara said, “It’s not every day that a clothing shop on Frome’s Catherine Hill (or any clothing shop for that matter) can celebrate a Top 5 single release. Obviously I’m delighted at the reaction to the release; it’s the result of exceptionally talented artists and a phenomenal team, including the team at Poot, who help to keep our little creative hub bristling with inspirational energy!”
Of Phoria’s visit to the famous Abbey Road Studios Ciara said, “The band are really excited to be recording their new album at Abbey Road which will be out towards the end of the year. I used to work there so it was lovely to return. I took the band a year ago and they have been really keen to get back there and record ever since.”
“The Lauren Laverne endorsed first single ‘Emanate’ had over 100,000 soundcloud plays in a week and is getting regular plays on BBC6music, Radio 1 and XFM. The EP release has received amazing reviews including a wonderful write up in the NME which featured the photo featured here which was taken at Frome’s very own Silk Mill two years ago.”
Here’s just a few of the excellent reviews the release has been receiving;
‘….super-smart and endearingly pieced together from a breathtaking blend of whisper-like vocals and euphoric electronics .’ – NME
‘If this track is anything to go by, Phoria’s upcoming EP, Display, is set to be one of the defining releases of the year.’ – Indie Shuffle
‘Even as “Emanate” makes its ascent into a huge, warm wall of synth melody, this remains a deeply felt and achingly human composition.’ – The Line Of Best Fit
