PORTWAY post office is set to close its doors on 14th June due to the resignation of the Postmistress and the expiry of the branch lease. However, a new post office has been confirmed for Caxton Road, and the Post Office is encouraging retailers to apply to host another post office in the town meaning there could soon be two new post offices available in the local area.
A Post Office spokesperson said, “We have recently had a resignation from the Postmistress for Portway due to the expiry of the lease and the branch is regrettably due to close on 14th June. We are currently advertising the vacancy on www.runapostoffice.co.uk and we would welcome interest from local retailers in the area.
“Another opportunity was also advertised for a brand-new branch to open in the Frome area. There was a successful applicant. We are looking to open a branch in Caxton Road. More details will be shared, once plans are agreed.”
The Rodden Road post office was also due to re-open last week, but this has been rescheduled to Friday 26th April.
The spokesperson added, “Rodden Way Post Office re-opens very soon, which will restore Post Office services to this area of Frome. Originally the branch was due to open on Friday 19th April, however, we have had to reschedule the opening of Rodden Way Post Office to April 26th, due to unforeseen reasons.
“We apologise for any inconvenience that this delay may cause. Soon the branch will be open Monday to Saturday from 9am to 6pm.”
