Record sales on Record Store Day

FROME’S favourite record shop recently celebrated their best sales ever on Record Store Day 2017, when customers queued from as early as 3.30am to get their hands on exclusive material.
Local musicians played outside Raves From The Graves as music lovers bustled through the door throughout the day on Saturday 22nd April. The local musicians that entertained the queues of people were The Wochynskis, Drift and Chris Difford.

  • Open day at Frome Park Bowling Club The community is invited to an open afternoon of bowls at Frome Park Bowling Club this Sunday. The bowling green is situated in Victoria Park and is home to the well-established club, which was formed in 1931. In recent years, the club has grown in popularity. Members pride themselves on being a friendly group and, this Sunday, 27th April, they are welcoming residents to a Bowls Open Day for anyone who would like to try the sport, from 2pm to 5pm.   • All-female running group prepare to take on the London Marathon A Frome woman is part of an all-female group of local runners preparing to take on the London Marathon this Sunday, 27th April. Izzy McNally, from Frome is one of the Avon Valley Runners club members who have been training for months to take on the 26.2-mile marathon. She qualified for her place by running a ‘good for age’ time at the Edinburgh Marathon in 2024 and is hoping for good weather to help her complete the course. “I’m very excited to run in London with my fellow AVR runners and am hoping it will be less rainy than Scotland was,” said Izzy.   • A trip down memory lane: classic cars, tractors and more at Vintage Gathering Westbury’s Transport and Vintage Vehicle Gathering is back this weekend celebrating its 31st year. On display will be classic and vintage vehicles and machinery including cars, trucks, motor cycles, fire engines, stationary engines and tractors. The event is held over two days on the weekend of Saturday and Sunday 26th and 27th April at the top field of Westbury Road, Bratton BA13 4TT. Keith Miller, the organiser, said, “It’s a great day out for all the family and a chance to take a trip down memory lane. We welcome all types of vintage transport and machinery, from bicycles to heavy wagons and from buses to stationary engines. Expect vintage cars, military vehicles, stationary engines, tractors, bikes and motorbikes; and all sorts of antique contraptions! We’ve even got a fairground organ coming this year.   • Don’t throw it, mend it at the Mend in Public day this Saturday Holes in your jumper or jeans? Rips or tears in your favourite bit of clothing? Things lying in your cupboard waiting for that mend? Come and learn how to fix them with the Everyone Needs Pockets team. Volunteers from the textile network will be out in the Westway Shopping Centre in Frome from 11am to 12 noon on Saturday 26th April, taking part in the national Mend in Public Day. The campaign started by Fashion Revolution encourages people to repair clothing in public spaces to resist disposable fashion, share mending skills and spark conversations about our clothes. The event is a chance to talk to the stitchers and find out what you can do to help your loved clothes and textiles last longer and keep them out of landfill which helps solve the problem of the huge amount of textile waste created every year.   • Photographic and cinematic greats share the stage at sold-out Photo|Frome event Photo|Frome hosted a remarkable evening of conversation on Saturday 12th April, bringing together three leading figures from the worlds of photography and film. The event featured Susan Meiselas, world-renowned president of the Magnum Foundation and recipient of this year’s Sony World Photography Awards’ Outstanding Contribution to Photography; celebrated film director Ken Loach; and Frome-based photographer Joss Barratt, who has documented Loach’s film productions through stills photography for over three decades. The ‘In Conversation’ event formed part of this year’s Photo|Frome festival of photography currently running at various venues throughout the town until 27th April.
