This year’s Remembrance Sunday, on 8th November, will be taking place during the second national lockdown. Unfortunately, this means that the normal Remembrance parade and evening service at St Johns will not be able to take place, say Frome Town Council.
The council reports, “The Frome Branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL) is asking that people who would normally come to pay their respects, stay at home this year, as a mark of respect. Last month they put a call out for video contributions so the community can be involved in their virMemorial Theatre[1]tual Act of Remembrance, and have since been busy editing the final version so it will be ready for everyone to view at home this Sunday.
“Reverend Colin Alsbury, who has co-ordinated the video and would normally run the evening service said,”Although we can’t gather outside the Memorial Theatre as usual to remember, the community of Frome has gathered together in a different way by contributing to a virtual Act of Remembrance. Special thanks go to the veterans and serving personnel, individuals and families, schools and organisations for each playing their part. The video has been produced and will go live on YouTube on the morning of Remembrance Sunday. The link will be found on the webpage at www.stjohnsfrome.com/remembrance.
“Whilst some may wish to watch the national event at the Cenotaph, anyone who starts watching our local Act of Remembrance at 10.25am will find that the two-minute silence would then begin very close on 11.00am.”
The Frome Branch of the Royal British Legion will conduct wreath laying on the town’s behalf with the Mayor and the Reverend Alsbury, after a two minute silence at 11am on Remembrance Sunday. This will be live streamed to allow many people to observe the two-minutes’ silence and the wreath laying collectively, while staying at home.”
