A frustrated resident has called for action after rubbish from a local Morrisons Daily store has been blowing into the street, creating an eyesore and raising environmental concerns.
Duncan McGovern, who lives nearby, says waste has been blowing out of crates left outside the front of the Morrisons Daily store on Vallis Way, littering the area. He describes it as an ‘eyesore’ and a persistent problem affecting the local community.
“I went prepared to clear the litter myself, but a store assistant saw me outside and came to help pick it up,” said Duncan. “He assured me he would inform the manager.”
However, Duncan says this is not the first time he has raised concerns, claiming the issue has been ongoing for nearly a year.
“I first started complaining last February and March when the crates were being left in the road,” he said. “It’s an unacceptable eyesore and has been a cause of complaint among several local businesses.
“As well as bringing down the appearance of the area, the crates shouldn’t be left on the road in Vallis Way. I previously spoke to the manager, hoping that would resolve the issue, but I was told it was due to changes within the store – which I considered a poor excuse.”
Duncan contacted Cllr
Martin Dimery, who reported the crates to the Highways Department. “The problem was resolved at the time, but unfortunately, it has returned,” said Duncan.
Backing the complaint, Cllr Dimery has now referred the matter to Environmental Health.
“I am greatly concerned about Morrisons’ misuse of the road outside their shop, and I am deeply frustrated that this practice has started again,” he said.
A spokesperson for Morrisons Daily said, “We take this matter seriously and are looking into the issues raised.”
