A RETIRED builder from Frome has flexed his creative muscles by creating an eight-foot square stunning mosaic made from left over tiles.
Paul Vincent says he has always been creative but says he didn’t have the time until he retired earlier this year.
He said, “I’d always been creative throughout my life, I’ve always been good with my hands, which is partly why I became a builder. When I realised I had some tiles left over that were just going to be scrapped, I thought this would be a great opportunity to be a bit creative and create a mosaic.
“I had no idea what it was going to turn out like, I just went into it blind! I’ve always been confident in my abilities that if I can picture something in my mind, I know my hands will eventually follow along.
“It took me about six weeks to put it all together by following the pattern, but I’m made up with the results. It’s not the hardest pattern to follow, in fact I’m pretty sure I learnt this at school! The hardest part was the physicality of bending constantly to create it.
“The response online has been really positive, and I’ve had plenty of positive comments. Some people have said it almost looks like I’ve dug it up and it’s some kind of Roman artifact!
“I’m still keeping active. I like reclaiming things and I’ve got plans to make some furniture out of old floorboards and stuff like that- I’m always on the look-out for ideas as I don’t want to get bored.”
