Seniors at Orchardleigh Golf Club have just completed another winning season, but it took a while to get going!
Up to the end of May there were just two victories and three drawn matches, against six losses.
However, since the beginning of June fortunes have changed and the three losses and two draws have been overwhelmed by fifteen victories – a stunning turn around.
Some put this down to the team not initially understanding skipper Pete Maunder’s tactics, while others point out that most of the early matches were away from home. Whatever the reason, the overall results for the year, nine losses, five draws and seventeen victories constitute another successful season for the team.
The section as a whole has grown – there are now over one hundred seniors at Orchardleigh – and Monday morning roll-ups have been well supported.
Seniors’ captain, Pete Maunder, has selected almost fifty individuals to play for the team, bringing in new blood to bolster the ageing regulars. The last six matches of the season were all victories, with the last, a comprehensive 5 ½ to 1 ½ win over new opponents Mendip Springs.
