A LOCAL therapist will be hoping to help more local people using the Bowen Technique as she joins practitioners across the country in celebrating Bowen Therapy Awareness Week this month.
Frome therapist, Jenni Townsend, is offering free taster sessions and a 10% discount on all treatments during April, as the Bowen community celebrates the 100th anniversary of its founder Tom Bowen.
Jenni, who has been in practice for 14 years, 11 of which have been in Frome said, “People come to me with a whole array of symptoms – the most common are physical pain in their back or shoulders, or digestive issues such as irritable bowel syndrome.
“The technique involves gentle rolling movements, which can be done through clothing, and which stimulate the body’s own healing processes.
“Many clients find the therapy relaxing, and each session is tailored to the individual – it’s a very client-led therapy.”
The Bowen Technique, or Bowen Therapy as it is often referred to, was developed in Australia in the 1950s by the late Tom Bowen. April 18th 2016 marks the 100th anniversary of Tom’s birth, and as a celebration of his life, the Bowen community are holding Bowen Therapy Awareness Week between 12 – 18 April 2016.
The Bowen Technique is a gentle form of bodywork therapy whereby light ‘moves’ are applied to the body in specific places.
Events, promotions and activities will be held across the UK during the week to mark the significant contribution that Tom Bowen brought to the holistic health field.
Local gardener Otto visited Jenni after his back locked following some excessive digging. The pain was so severe he was struggling to get around. “I was pleased to have more mobility immediately after the treatment,” he said. “The pain eased quickly, so I was able to return to work.”
