FROME’S first ever gin distillery bar has opened its doors to the public following the easing of lockdown restrictions.
Still Sisters, owned and run by sisters Tori Jordan and Hannah Smith, will be selling their award-winning artisanal gin, made in their traditional copper still.
Now lockdown rules allow for indoor drinking, midweek customers can watch their gin being made by Still Sisters’ master distiller, Hannah, through a window from the bar into the distillery. The shop and outside space is open to purchase a bottle, enjoy a gin, sample the range or simply enjoy a tea or coffee.
Where possible, the sisters source ingredients for their gin from local farms. Their bestselling/award-winning signature gin uses John Hurd’s organic watercress grown in Longbridge Deverill a few miles outside Frome. And Whitbourne Farm lavender provides the ingredients for their popular lavender gin. Perry’s Cider provides the Somerset Cider Apples for their Somerset Cider Apple Gin with £1 of sales of the 70cl bottle going to The Orchard project dedicated to the creation, restoration and celebration of community orchards, bringing well cared for community run orchards to the UK’s towns and cities.
To show their support for the nursing community following the pandemic, the sisters have decided to offer a free gin and tonic to nurses who provide identification on their visit to the distillery.
Owner Tori said, “We’re so excited to be opening Frome’s first ever gin distillery bar! We’ve been selling our award-winning gin online for a few years now, but to have the chance to serve it up to customers in our own bar is a dream come true.
“We’re passionate about quality, keeping it local and being kind to nature – we think a gin in our bar is about as local, quality and low air miles as you can get – and we can’t wait to share with people.
“We wanted to open sooner and it’s been a tough time for so many of us, but we know from personal experience what nurses have been through and we’re delighted to offer any nurse with ID a well deserved gin as a small thanks for all they have done for us.”
Still Sisters bar is located at 2 Ashton Park, Handlemaker Road next to Toolstation and open from 10am to 5pm Monday to Saturday. For more details or photos go to stillsisters.co.uk or contact Tori on 01373474647
