NEW statistics show that a total of 977,000 meals were claimed in Somerset under the government’s Eat Out to Help Out scheme
In Somerset, a total of 1,107 eateries signed up to the scheme, 148 of them in David Warburton MP’s constituency of Somerton & Frome, where more than 103,000 meals were claimed with the average discount being £6.74 per meal, the highest in Somerset.
On average, each registered restaurant in Somerset claimed 883 discounted meals – 68 a day for the 13 eligible days.
More than 100 million meals were claimed across the UK under the scheme, which ran throughout August. Over £5million was claimed in discounts across the county.
David Warburton MP said, “The Eat Out to Help Out Scheme has clearly been enormously beneficial to Somerset’s restaurant sector during the Covid-19 crisis. With tourism and hospitality being the backbone of our local economy, it has been vital to support these businesses and I’m delighted that so many eateries signed up to the scheme, enabling diners to claim a total of £696,000 in discounts.”
