2018 is looking to be a huge year for the Cheese and Grain with more big names announced to perform at the venue.
Following in the footsteps of comedians Jason Manford and Ed Byrne, and Take That’s Howard Donald, the Cheese and Grain will welcome to the stage pop super groups S Club and 5ive and legendary comedian, Ruby Wax.
Fans of pop music from the late 90s and 00s have snapped up tickets to see S Club and 5ive perform, with one performance selling out in just two hours, the morning tickets went on sale.
Originally planned for one night only on Friday 9th February, an extra night was added on Saturday 10th February to meet the demand – but tickets are selling fast, with just over 100 left at the time of going to press. The show promises to be a night full of nostalgia with a back catalogue of over 20 Top 5 back to back hit singles between them.
Then in May, drop-dead gorgeous, sassy and smart, Ruby Wax brings her new five-star-one-woman show to the stage, based on her number one best-seller ‘A Mindfulness Guide For The Frazzled.’
S Club (formerly known as S Club 7) is made up of original band members Jo O’Meara, Bradley McIntosh and Tina Barrett, who have been performing as a trio for a couple of years. The group had four No.1 singles and five singles that hit No.2 in the late 90s and early 00s.
5IVE’s line-up consists of Ritchie Neville, Scott Robinson and Sean Conlon who reunited in 2012. They had three No.1 singles, including a collaboration with Queen to cover their classic anthem ‘We Will Rock You’.
The two groups will be supported by Punk on Your Hits, who are described as the ultimate pop covers band playing 90s’ hits in the style of rock.
Tickets for Saturday 10th February cost £25 in advance.
Catch Ruby’s new show Ruby Wax: Frazzled at the Cheese and Grain, Frome on Thursday 17th May 2018 at 7.30pm. Tickets are £21.50 in advance or £25 on the door.
She has been honoured with the title of poster girl for mental illness; once crazy, now less so, she gives a tour of the mind – how to use it, not lose it.
Ruby Wax is an American comedienne who made a career in the UK as part of the alternative comedy scene in the 1980s. Known for her extensive comedy and television interview career, she has campaigned tirelessly to raise awareness about mental health issues, including speaking at Downing Street to raise money for neuroscience research.
In 2012, she obtained a Masters degree in mindfulness-based cognitive therapy from Oxford University to increase her understanding of the brain and she used this knowledge as the basis for her books ‘Sane New World: Taming the Mind’ and ‘A Mindfulness Guide for the Frazzled’, both of which became Sunday Times bestsellers on publication.
She was awarded an OBE for her services to mental health in the Honorary British Awards to Foreign Nationals in 2015. She became a leading speaker on mental issues including appearances at the Home Office, MI5, Apple, Goldman Sachs, KPMG, Merril Lynch, Bank of America, Downing Street, the House of Lords, Google, The cabinet-Director Generals and TEDglobal 2012.
Stephen Fry said, “Wax has an extraordinary mind, and she has brought it to bear with her trademark wit… a ruby beyond price.”
