Dyer:Cumming’s are an exciting Ceilidh and Concert Band based in the South West of England who have been playing together for over eight years. They play traditional English folk music with their own funky and youthful twist which is achieved by the unique mix of instruments merged with fun and energetic arrangements. They have been called a new uprising of Folk Fusion.
Dyer:Cumming’s have performed ceilidh’s and concerts at some of the country’s top events and venues including Sidmouth Folk Week, Priddy Folk Festival, Colston Hall Bristol, Bristol Empire Museum and Trowbridge Village Pump Festival, as well as running hugely successful children’s workshops for schools, organisations and festivals including Sidmouth Folk Week, Towersey Village Festival (as part of Shooting Roots), Folk South West, Chard Independent School and Somerset Music.
In 2009 they came 2nd in the Glastonbury Festival Battle of the Bands at the Colston Hall and were also finalists in the national competition ‘New Roots’.
Fastnet Diva is the first Girlguiding all-female crew to enter the Rolex Fastnet Sailing Race – Cowes to Plymouth Atlantic Offshore race round the Fastnet Rock in August 2015. They range in age from 19-58 and are embarking on this high seas adventure to challenge themselves and inspire others. Most importantly they hope to show their members of Girlguiding that Girls can!
Fastnet Divas have completed 308 qualifying race miles during three races since April, where they had experienced rough conditions, much seasickness, so little wind that they drifted backwards on the tide and their first victory – first Challenger yacht over the line for the Morgan Cup race to Guernsey.
Now they ‘just’ have the BIG race ahead of them, over 600 nm which is very daunting. However, the team has worked together very well and are as ready as they can be for the adventure ahead.
At the shindig on Friday 17th July there will be a raffle and bar, free parking right in front of the venue. www.cheeseandgrain.com
