Would you like a career in sustainability or social sciences? Frome Town Council is offering two part-time summer placements for enthusiastic people to develop their skills and support the council’s projects.
From developing sustainable transport solutions, to promoting the UK’s first sharing shop to community engagement, the placements are ideal for post A-Level, college or university students wanting to brush up their skills and gain work experience over the summer.
Anna Francis, resilience officer at Frome Town Council, is recruiting for the sustainability placement.
Anna said, “Competition for jobs, particularly for young people, is at an all-time high. Having relevant work experience is a key way to differentiate yourself – that’s how I got into the environment sector years ago.
“It’s also an exciting time to get involved with Frome Town Council as we are developing a range of innovative projects and are leading the way in community engagement and sustainability.
“Last year we had excellent participants who, for example, helped to secure £12,000 funding for solar for Harry’s Hydro. One of the summer placements subsequently stayed on with the council to become a project assistant which has been fantastic.”
Kate Hellard, community projects officer, is recruiting for the social sciences placement.
Kate said, “Supporting community groups and exploring ways to maximise community engagement is really rewarding and exciting and we work on a wide range of projects.
“Gaining practical experience is a vital step towards getting a career in this area. There may be other summer opportunities too so do keep checking our website.”
The times and dates of the placements are flexible but it is anticipated the placements will be for two days a week over the summer months. A £50 a week bursary will be provided for each placement. To apply check the full details at www.frometowncouncil.gov.uk
The deadline for applications is 17th June.
