Frome Carnival will be selling light up toys to the public again this year following last year’s success when they were sold for the first time.
This year, the committee is offering a bigger range of toys and more sellers, whilst maintaining a low cost.
Each year, local people embrace the carnival spirit and purchase large numbers of light up toys and balloons during the processions. Unfortunately, this money has not typically gone to the Carnivals or the charities they support, and it is for this reason that the Wessex Carnival Committees made the decision last year to try selling light up goods themselves.
James Edwards, committee member said, “We are incredibly grateful to the Frome community for getting behind our new initiative last year and buying our light up items. We have listened to the feedback: specifically, people wanted more sellers, a larger range of toys and sellers out earlier in the day – and we have acted on all of this.”
The public are asked to purchase light up toys from committee members and volunteers who will be wearing purple and yellow hi-vis tabards which will identify them as Frome Carnival volunteers.
This year there will be two static stands offering toys and carnival programmes – one located in the centre of town and one near to the Vine Tree Pub. In addition, a number of sellers will walk the Carnival route offering the crowds the opportunity to buy toys.
“None of our toys will cost more than £5 and these include spinning light-up items and a Star Wars style sword,” continued James. “All the profits will go back into the Carnival.”
