Local band Sweet Machine will be performing at the Cheese and Grain, Frome, with The Dave Houghton Band on Saturday 18th October and at the St James Wine Vaults, Bath, on Friday 31st October at 7.30pm.
Sweet Machine play original electro pop. Formed by ex-members of The Dream Kitchens, Sweet Machine has had various additional members over the years, but the original line-up has remained constant (Darren Hogarth, vocals/synthesiser; Richard Churchyard, synthesisers/ vocals; Rob Petherick, bass/vocals; Stephen Shillito, electronic percussion)
After a brief rest in the mid 2000s, they have recently been performing live again, playing music from their debut album Electric Soup and new songs such as 1979 Comatose in Grey and Comfort Zone. They are in their own words “really enjoying gigging again, the positive feedback has been fantastic, we aim to have a great time and hope audiences enjoy our electronic offerings too.”
The band, former finalists for Glastonbury Festival Unsigned, have gigged in London, Brighton and the Southwest, including a well received set at the Frome Festival in 2012.
Other local events include performing for Record Store Day 2013 at Raves from The Grave (owned by Mr Richard Churchyard himself!!), a micro gig at the Olive Tree in Frome in support of the release for “The Last Shop Standing” film based on the book by Graham Jones, The Big Gig at Midsomer Norton in 2013, a Live PA for Frome FM in 2013, and most recently the Coleford Village Music Festival in May 2014 and The So Alive Music Festival at Frome FC on the 12th of July 2014.
Be prepared a diverse range of influences from Bowie, Roxy Music, to The Doors, Depeche Mode and Gary Numan, Sweet Machine craft danceable, melodic, electro pop songs with occasional forays into ʻout there electronic weirdnessʼ!
The Cheese and Grain gig starts at 8.00pm with tickets £12 in advance or £14 on the door. For more details, see http://sweet machine.bandcamp.com/ www.facebook.com/sweet machine.uk https://twitter. com/sweetmachineUK https://soundcloud.com/ sweetmachine
