A Talk exploring the life of campaigner, leader and activist Annie Besant is set to take place at Christ Church later this month.
Local residents are invited to attend ‘Annie Besant – A Neglected Pioneer’, a presentation by speaker Kevin Tingay on Saturday 26th September.
Organisers say, “Annie Besant (1847 to 1933) lived through nine decades of two turbulent centuries. She lived a life of leadership and campaigning for the rights of working women, for religious tolerance, for Indian freedom, and a universalist philosophy.
“Throughout her life she inspired innumerable people in many parts of the world and was at the same time the cause of exasperation for a great variety of political and religious leaders. The speaker knew a number of people who remembered Besant and has published some studies of her life and achievements.”
Refreshments will be served from 10.30am before the talk begins at 11am.
Admission is free, though donations are welcome.
