Rockfield House in Nunney will host an exhibition and sale of rugs, textiles, furniture, jewellery and artefacts made by nomadic peoples of Central and Western Asia, from Turkey to India from 14th October to 23rd October.
Rockfield House has not had many occupants over its 200-year life. Built by Thomas Pinch of Bath, and briefly the Rectory, it was home to the notable Pre-Raphaelite artist and Sculptor Robert Bateman in the first decades of the twentieth century. Since 1960 it’s been the home of the Pomeroy family, first Major and Mrs Robert Pomeroy, and more recently Henry & Caroline Pomeroy and their children.
Now it’s also home to two local charities making a big impact on poverty and the environment in Africa and beyond. CHASE Africa provides healthcare, family planning and tree planting in rural Kenya and Uganda. Climate Stewards supports community forestry and cook-stove projects in Ghana, Kenya and Mexico, funded though offsetting carbon emissions from flights and other activities.
From Friday 14th October to Sunday 23rd October, the Pomeroys will be hosting an exhibition and sale of rugs, textiles, furniture, jewellery and artefacts made by nomadic peoples of Central and Western Asia, from Turkey to India. With prices to suit every pocket, this is a wonderful opportunity to pick up some unique Christmas presents while helping two worthy causes.
This unique collection of ethically-traded goods has been assembled by Edinburgh-based Nomads Tent, which puts on touring shows around the UK throughout the year. From the ornate design of oriental carpets and the bold geometry of tribal rugs, to the rustic charm of roughly-carved Indian bowls and moderately-priced Iranian ceramics and curios, this promises to be a colourful and entertaining experience.
The exhibition will be open daily from 10am to 5pm, with coffee, tea, cakes and light lunches available for a small charge.
In addition, there will be two evening receptions, Friday 14th and Friday 21st October, 6-8pm, where you can hear short stories of hope and transformation from CHASE Africa and Climate Stewards, while sipping a glass of bubbly and viewing the exhibition of items for sale.
