The story of the National Trust’s Stourhead is a fascinating one – as much about the people who created it, as the garden itself.
On Tuesday 22nd October, Hunting Raven will welcome Stourhead’s head gardener, Alan Power, to talk about what it takes to maintain one of Britain’s most-loved gardens.
Alan will share the secrets of Stourhead – delving deep into its design and history, exploring the garden through the seasons, and talking about the work involved in preserving its beauty for the hundreds of thousands of visitors Stourhead welcomes each year.
The event celebrates the publication of ‘Stourhead’ a beautifully illustrated new book published by the National Trust, in which Alan Power and his co-author Stephen Anderton (garden writer for The Times) tell the fascinating story of how this tribute to the classical world – complete with lake, temples, grotto, bridges and monuments of all kinds – came to be created by generations of the Hoare family in Wiltshire.
The talk will take place at Trinity Church Hall on Tuesday 22nd October, doors 7.30pm, tickets £7.
