IMPROVED paths, improved and repaired play equipment and more seating are all part of a plan to renovate the Frome Showfield this autumn.
As the town council’s rangers get to work on improvements to the Showfield, users have been asked to be patient.
Frome Town Council reports, “The rangers have started work on the paths in and around the play area. They will be a mix of Tarmac and rubber – so they’ll be smooth, durable and with a little give (and bounce!) and the surfaces underneath and around the play equipment will be improved, replacing the worn grid matting with brand new bonded-rubber.
“Children and parents alike will also be delighted to hear that all of the play equipment will be fixed and reinstated. This will include new steps and climbing ropes by the slide (to make it easier to get back to the top to slide down again!)
“And finally, once completed, there will be some more seating and another bin in the play area.”
Across the entire site, Frome Town Council will also be planting some new trees, including an avenue of lime trees along the track leading up to the football pitch. The most notable change at the play area will be a new hedge enclosing the area gifted by the Forestry Commission and, whilst it grows, some temporary fencing.
Councillor Rich Ackroyd said, “All in all, the improvements will include over 400 donated which is a fantastic addition to our tree stock. And the new hedge surrounding the play area will provide a more sheltered play space.”
