THE Seniors Champion at Orchardleigh Golf Club is Paul Lewis – for the third year in a row – with rounds of 79 and 76 (155 total) and he also scooped two other prizes over the two-day competition.
“The weather got in the way of the organised format – the second round was delayed due to flooded greens – and it was the low handicappers who came to the fore in some difficult conditions over two days of golf. In second place was Malcolm Lloyd on 158, with Rod Jelly (160) just pipping Seniors Captain, Phil Jefferies (161) for third place. All play off single figure handicaps.
“Rod Jelly led after round one, with his 76 being two shots clear of his rivals. This was also good enough to win Rod the Jefferies Trophy for the best net score (68) beating John Scott by two shots. On day two, Paul Lewis also shot 76 (net 70) and this was three shots clear of Peter Foote (net 73) winning Paul the Scott Trophy (best net on Day Two.) Paul’s combined net score (143) was one ahead of Rod Jelly (144) so he collected his third cup – The Mike Small Cup for best net score over the two days. Third was Dave Sugrue (145) while fourth was shared by Phil Jefferies and Malcolm Lloyd (147).
