A TALK by Rachel Butler of the Tiny Houses Community Bristol Ltd was given at Frome Town Hall on Monday 2nd December, about the growing movement and its potential to create affordable and flexible homes with a lower carbon footprint.
Rachel’s group now has over 2,000 supporters worldwide and is in the process of acquiring a 1.5 acre site close to Bristol city centre that will be developed in a way that brings together co-housing, self-build and care for the environment.
“The tiny house movement promotes financial prudence, eco-friendly choices, shared community experiences, and a shift in consumerism-driven mind sets,” said Rachel. “We are a self governing group of like-minded people from Bristol and beyond working together to challenge the crippling condition of the housing market and provide a creative, ethical, community-led alternative.”
If you’d like to find out more, Frome’s next tiny homes event will be an informal meet-up from 6.30pm – 8pm on Monday 27th January at The Good Heart, 7 Palmer Street, BA11 1DS. Anyone is welcome to come along to meet people who’ve actually lived in a tiny home, watch some videos about tiny living, and hear how to get involved with the upcoming Frome Tiny Homes Event at the Cheese and Grain on Sunday 22nd March.
This unique all-day event is being organised by Fair Housing for Frome and will include presentations and workshops with leading architects, builders and social entrepreneurs from across the South West who are working in the areas of community-led housing and tiny homes. FHfF is particularly keen to hear from anyone who might be able to provide a small plot of land for Frome’s first pilot Tiny Homes community.
