Frome’s club runners saw the month out with three different local races on Sunday 26th November.
Five runners made their way over to Wiltshire for the AVR Half Marathon. This gently undulating 13-mile road race follows a route around the villages of Edington, Steeple Ashton and Great Hinton, in the shadow of the Westbury White Horse. Paul Ryman was the first Frome runner to finish, posting a time of 01:16:28, which earned him second position overall and second in category. Next to finish was Lee Stone (MV40), whose time of 01:25:59 earned him seventh position in category. He was followed by Peter Larman (MV40) in 01:28:42, Luke Oakes (MSEN) in 01:31:23 and Neil Munns (MV50) in 01:43:09.
Meanwhile, over in Devon, Frome runner Martin Taylor (M60) was taking part in the Bicton Blister, an approximately 10-mile race that takes runners out over the Bicton and Woodbury Common, an area of outstanding natural beauty. Martin completed the route in 1:27:18.
Over in Dorset, two more of Frome’s finest lined up for the Boscombe 10K, a multi-terrain race starting and finishing in Kings Park athletic stadium. Zoe Daly (FSEN) crossed the line in 00:47:02, followed shortly after by Chapper Boulton (M55) in 00:51:05.
The following weekend saw the return of perennial favourite the Bromham Pudding race. The race’s popularity is due in part to its flat, fast course with plenty of PB potential. The fact that participants also receive a Christmas pudding as they cross the line only adds to its popularity. Katherine Uphill (FSEN) was the first Frome runner to complete the course in 00:42:12, earning herself second position in category. Caroline Rea (FSEN) finished in 00:45:13 for sixth in category. Hot on her heels was Joanne Fordham (FV40) with a time of 00:46:09, followed by Lynn Brand (FV50) in 00:51:05, Rachel Brenni (FV40) in 00:53:45 and Julie Chilvers (FV40) in 00:53:46.
