Westway Post Office will close its doors to customers on 9th September. A spokesperson from the town centre-based Post Office has said the closure can be attributed to a lack of customers and a combination of rising business and utility rates.
All Westway staff will return to the Portway Post Office.
A statement from the Portway Post Office on social media reads, “Unfortunately the pretty modest customer base has dwindled over the year and the ever-increasing utility and business rates commitment is causing concern.
“All the staff will return to Portway Post Office, so we will be in a good position to staff for the extra customers expected.
“Thanks to all those who have supported us to make this year possible including Maybrook properties and Mark Dorrington and team at Frome Town Council. Thanks to all the customers who continue to support both businesses.”
The Post Office have said that they are working hard to re-open the Westway store.
A statement on their website reads, “I would like to assure you that we are working hard to keep any period of closure to a minimum and we are currently investigating the options available which will enable us to reinstate a Post Office service to the local community.
“In exploring this, it is important that any future service is sustainable for the person operating the service, and for Post Office Limited.”
