Concerns raised about ‘dangerous’ overgrown vegetation that has been obscuring road signs, junctions and roundabouts around the town have been addressed by Frome Town Council, which has contacted Somerset Council to request the authority deals with the issue.
At the full town council meeting earlier this year, Councillor Anita Collier said that the overgrowth in some places was ‘so appalling, the signs could not be read’ causing problems for road users and pedestrians. She also said that a local police woman had said there could have been a ‘very nasty accident around Nunney Catch because the signs could not be read.’
Reporting back to the chamber after agreeing to contact Somerset Council, the town council’s clerk, Paul Wynne, said during July’s full town council meeting, that it had been a ‘nice mini campaign’ to do.
He said, “I wrote to [Somerset Council]. Anita went out and got back quite a long list that was itemised and responded to by the highways maintenance [team]. There were some things they were able to do and some things that are on private ground and they are not able to do but it resulted in some action which is great.”
