Frome Town Football Club has named its stadium ‘The SpecialEffect Stadium’ for the 2016/17 season following an agreement with disability charity SpecialEffect.
Robins’ managing director Ian Pearce is happy to have the charity on board.
He said, “One of our staunch supporters, Tom Clark, made us aware of SpecialEffect after they had a massive impact on his own life.
“Last year, along with Tom, we ran a special FIFA tournament which raised over £1,000 for SpecialEffect and we think the work they do is amazing and can make a big difference to people.
“With this deal we hope to be able to give them some good publicity and help spread the word about what they do. Our thanks go to Tom for his continued support and being able to liaise in getting this arranged.”
The stadium, formerly named after Blindmans Brewery, will be renamed for the upcoming season due to start in August.
SpecialEffect is a charity that aims to help enhance the quality of life of those with physical difficulties by using technology to play video games, communicate and use leisure activities.
Founder and CEO Dr Mick Donegan said, “I think I can speak for all our staff when I say how touched and humbled we are at this opportunity that Tom has been able to make possible through his own sponsorship and love of Frome Town.
“Very few stadiums in the world are named after a charity, so Tom has really set a precedent. Best of all is that Tom is so pleased with the improvements that SpecialEffect has helped to bring to his quality of life that he has done something very special and unique to acknowledge it.
“We will continue to work with Tom for as long as he needs us and look forward to joining him to watch the Robins in what we hope will be a very successful 2016/17 season.”
