Once again the Frome Rotary and Frome Lions clubs delighted both the young and the older in the town and surrounding areas with the traditional Father Christmas float.
Children were brought out to stare and squeal with delight, all rosy cheeked and starry eyed, as the carols boomed out and the colourful float wound its way around estates and cul de sacs throughout the town.
Both Clubs would like to thank the community after the bucket collection raised nearly £12,000 to help local good causes.
The total exceeds the year before and represents an all-time record.
The float represents a tremendous team effort between the two clubs, and special thanks must also go to the drivers and marshals who do an excellent job in ensuring that Santa visits as many houses as possible.
Santa is now having a well-deserved break, but will be back in December to start his visits again!
Frome Rotary president Patrick Cusworth said, “This is a remarkable achievement and a testimony to the generosity of local people.
“This Christmas event is one I know they all cherish, and many people say that they come out with their children to share with them their own memories of the float over the years. People pour jam jars of coins into the buckets that they have been saving for the collection throughout the year.
“This money will be split equally between the Frome Rotary and Lions clubs and will be used by the two clubs working together to give service to the community for the benefit of deserving causes in and around Frome.”
Patrick Cusworth and Frome Lions President, Clive Smith, would like to extend their personal and sincere thanks to everyone involved, and particularly the residents of the Town and surrounding villages for supporting this annual fund raising event.
Both said it makes it particularly worthwhile when groups of friends and families gather along the route to say hello to Santa.
