Festival season has finally arrived and the Cheese & Grain have two exciting festival warm up shows to announce, Grammy award winning Loudon Wainwright III and legendary Downpatrick rockers ASH.
The iconic Grammy award winning Loudon Wainwright III will be playing one of only three shows in the UK and his only non-festival appearances at the Cheese & Grain on Friday 28th July as he prepares to play the Cambridge Folk Festival.
Direct from the USA, Grammy award winning singer/songwriter, film & TV star Loudon Wainwright III plays an exclusive one off show in Frome.
A real coup for the Cheese & Grain to entice an artist of the stature of Loudon Wainwright to such an intimate venue. One of the all time great singer songwriters and probably the most mesmeric performer you are ever likely to see.
Inspired musically by seeing Bob Dylan at the Newport Folk Festival, he was later given the tag of the “New Dylan”. However he soon developed his own unique style, writing such classic songs as “Dead Skunk (in the middle of the road)”, “Motel Blues”, “Swimming Song” “Your Mother & I” “Daughter” “Drinking song”, amongst many others.
To date he has released 26 albums in his witty, incisive, self-mocking style, gaining him a huge worldwide following. He won a Grammy for Album of the Year “High Wide and Handsome: The Charlie Poole Project”, and has won three other Grammy Nominations. As an actor, he has appeared in numerous films and found fame as Captain Calvin, the “singing surgeon” in the cult TV show M*A*S*H. He was the original musician/sidekick on the David Letterman show.
His marriage to Kate McGarrigle produced his son and daughter Rufus & Martha Wainwright, both themselves major international recording artists. His songs have been covered by artists as wide ranging as Johnny Cash, Bonnie Raitt, Earl Scruggs and Mose Allison.
Tickets cost £30 in advance, all seated event.
