NATIONAL political campaigners Unlock Democracy will be hosting a free event at the Cheese & Grain next month.
For the final event in their Unlock Magna Carta tour, Unlock Democracy will be in Frome on Sunday 13th September for a packed day of practical action and democratic debate.
The group will be joined by Frome’s ex-mayor, councillor and author of Flatpack Democracy, Peter Macfadyen, as well as cllr Pippa Goldfinger and The Guardian’s John Harris.
Other guests will include Clive Stafford Smith (Reprieve), Neal Lawson (Compass), Molly Scott Cato MEP, Pat Kane (Scottish activist and musician), and representatives from groups including Podemos and Divest Bristol.
The day will be focused on discussing new democratic movements, with working groups on: DIY democracy; the future of UK party politics; engaging women in democracy; fossil fuel divestment, and lessons from abroad.
There will also be the chance for people to put their own ideas on the agenda in open space debates.
The event is free to attend and open to all, and will be held from 2pm – 7pm at the Cheese and Grain in Frome, followed by live music and the chance to continue the conversation over food and drinks in the bar.
