Sat. 3rd August. West of England Premier Cricket League – WEPL Somerset 2019 Chard 157 all out Frome 214-9
The unstoppable Frome dismantled league rivals Chard in their own backyard for the first time in decades.
The showmen got off to rapid start with Lewis (25) accumulating frequent boundaries, along with the steady P Sanger (39). Chard then brought the pressure by gaining the wickets of Lewis and the Croker brothers, leaving the score at 96-4. A crucial partnership between Unwin (31) and Veal (39) brought the showmen back on track. This was followed up by N Dredge (16) with his trademark big hits, giving Frome a respectable score of 214 at the break.
R Croker (3-34) began the attack, gaining the first wicket early on, but Chard rallied to create a partnership of 98 which soared their total to 113-1. R Croker then gained an important wicket, just before the drinks break. Wickets then tumbled with a devastating spell of bowling from captain M Sanger (5-32) which destroyed Chard’s middle order, with them losing 7 wickets for just 23 runs. This put Frome firmly on top with Watts (2-30) gaining the final wickets.
