Honouring its commitment to promote community interests, Mells Village Café is now dedicating space on its walls for the display of local artists’ work.
The first in a monthly exhibition of artists from the locality is long-time Mells resident, Heather O’Brien, whose oil paintings in this display appropriately feature familiar and hidden corners of Mells.
Yorkshire-born Heather trained at Rochdale and Corsham colleges of art and has lived in Mells Green with her musician husband for 21 years. She works from a studio in her garden and currently exhibits her light and colour-filled landscapes of Somerset and Languedoc at the Wren Gallery in Burford. Her ‘Corners of Mells’ collection can be viewed and purchased from Mells Café, open seven days a week between 9am and 4pm (10am – 3.30pm at weekends).
Community-run Mells Village Shop and Café has been raising funds to provide facilities for Mells and surrounding villages since its opening in 2009, as well as serving as a social hub for tourists, visitors and residents.
