Volunteers from Friends of River Frome spent their Bank Holiday Monday up to their chests in water removing junk from the river.
Between Wallbridge and Rodden Meadow they collected four canoe loads of debris, including five Asda trolleys, two bicycles, a motor scooter, a large industrial fan and a huge quantity of sundry metal and plastic objects.
Organiser Dan Lupton said, “Clearing bigger rubbish from the river is something I’ve wanted to do for years. I love this river and it’s so full of long-term junk. All it took was a canoe, some waders and a vehicle, so we can easily keep clearing the river and keeping it clean.”
