Frome’s Big Christmas Get-Together is in need of a new team of organisers who can jump into action over the next few weeks.
There’s no shortage of people of the day wanting to share in this incredible community event each year, but without lead volunteers giving their time now, the event may not happen.
The event has been running for four years, providing a free Christmas lunch and festive celebrations to anyone who wants company on Christmas Day. Run solely by generous volunteers, who work together to ensure everyone has a good day, the event includes everything from venue decorating, food preparation and cooking a full traditional Christmas lunch, to transport for guests, chatting at tables, giving out gifts, carol singing and washing up.
Frome Football Club has kindly offered to host the celebrations once again. Last year over 120 people who would otherwise have been on their own, were fed and entertained with over 160 meals provided on the day and more than 200 people who volunteered their time in December. All costs were covered through donations from over 60 local businesses and individuals.
Emma Warren said; “The past group of lead volunteers have enjoyed every minute, but we all feel it’s time to pass the event on to new faces. It’s a tried and tested formula, which does not need much tweaking.
“There is a comprehensive handbook – including background of the strong ethics and morals, a how-to guide, contact lists, budget breakdown and wish-lists required for the day. And there is no shortage of kind volunteers already wanting to help again on Christmas Day – half a dozen have already been in touch! The past organising group have all offered their support and time to handover, so this is a wonderful opportunity to be more involved with a worthwhile community project.”
Lead roles needed include: overall, guests, press and PR, volunteers, transport, food, finance, decorations, gifts, raffle, entertainment and children’s activities. More details and photos from previous years are available on the Facebook page.
Emma continues, “It’s possible for 2-3 people to work together on roles, which would allow more people to be involved and share the jobs out. All the past lead volunteers are extremely keen to support/handover roles and there is a valuable pool of knowledge and advice to share.
“Please do give me a call or email to talk more if you can help. We urgently need volunteers to come forward before October. Being involved in this event is one of the best things I’ve ever done, for me and my family. Please help this wonderful event to continue if you can – everyone deserves a great Christmas.”
