It’s been a great start to the season for Frome Park men bowlers, who have been in good form. In the County League, Frome Park A are top of East Division 1 after two convincing wins.
On Saturday 3rd May, an away trip to Keynsham B finished with an 81 – 39 win with the team picking up a maximum 12 points. The best rink was Phil Wood, Derrick Shulman, Colin Henning & Tom Whitcombe.
On Saturday 10th May, the A team hosted Stothert & Pitt. Again another big win was secured by 72 – 37, securing 12 points. The best rink for Frome was Colin Hale, Keith Haines, Les Stather & Steve West, winning 27 – 12.
Frome Park B have also started well in the County League and are top in East Division 2. A good performance against Bath C, saw a win on two rinks and by 67 – 43 to claim 10 points.
In the first midweek Mid-Somerset League match, The Park played at home against Castle Cary and won on all rinks to pick up 12 points, the overall score was 62 – 40. The rink of Colin Hale, Marcus Seymour, Les Stather & Steve West had the unlikely feat of doing something quite rare by getting all their bowls closer to the jack than their opponents to pick up eight shots in one end; this is known as a “Hot Shot”; well done guys.
In the National competitions, the men’s team progressed through to the next round in the Double Fours, winning on both rinks to beat Willmott Park, a strong Premier League team; this was an excellent result. A home tie in the second round against Knowle is the reward.
The only setback came in the Top Club competition, losing to Portishead RBL in a very close match by 4 – 1. The result could have gone either way with both the Pairs and the Rink only losing by one shot on the last end. Frome’s only win came in the Singles; well done to Wayne Pitts.
