THE son of a business owner in Frome will be travelling to Uganda in September to build a brand new playground for a poor community.
Will Hall, whose mum owns Bonbon Chic on Catherine Hill, will travel with his girlfriend Laura Beaven to Uganda with the charity ‘East African Playgrounds’ and for three weeks help build new playgrounds for a poor community or refugee camp.
The couple are also trying to raise £4,700 for the charity which helps them continue their work. They have already raised over £4,000.
Will said, “We have not been assigned a particular project yet, however we will be building a brand new playground for a poor African community or refugee camp based in Uganda. In addition to this new playground, we will be renovating a previously built playground and running creative play sessions to help improve social, physical, emotional and cognitive skills of disadvantaged African children.
“East African Playgrounds is a fantastic charity which sees development in a different way, by creating jobs, games and places to play. So far they have built 150 playgrounds all over Uganda which has improved the lives of 300,000 children. In addition, they have 50 full-time Ugandan staff who help teach the communities about the importance of play and who construct the playgrounds.
“We’re both really excited about the trip and it’s a great opportunity to make an international difference. I have done charity work before in Tanzania and it is really rewarding giving something back to people less fortunate then ourselves.”
