THE Cheese and Grain has received a £15,000 boost from Mendip District Council’s Local Legacy Fund.
The money will pay for furniture and equipment for its three new meeting and training rooms and its new ‘hot-desks’ service. The money will also help with the establishment of an annual ‘summer school’ – extending community education classes and activities for families throughout August.
Steve Macarthur, the Cheese and Grain’s general manager, explained that hot-desks are effectively an office you can hire by the day, with print facilities and Wi-Fi backed-up with meeting facilities. Uniquely the hot-desks will be available seven days a week and in the evenings and can be booked by individuals, small businesses, charities and voluntary organisations.
The three meeting rooms will be used for adult education classes, training, rehearsals and social events. Steve says with its new cafe and bar the Cheese and Grain will be a great place to work, train, meet and socialise.
The work is part of a £500,000 development made possible by Frome Town Council as part of a scheme that replaces an annual subsidy with a capital investment. The scheme will save the council and rate payers of Frome thousands of pounds each year.
Steve says the meeting/ training rooms and hot-desks will be available for hire from January 2014.
The Local Legacy Fund is run by Mendip District Council. Mendip is supporting the project because the Cheese and Grain is creating jobs, chances to train and opportunities for local businesses.
