FROME College held its annual reunion where 55 former pupils plus 10 guests attended on 20th May.
Jane Davis from the College said “The day was a little showery and the group photo was quickly taken between the showers. At least 12 old pupils were visiting for the first time, which is most encouraging.”
The most distant traveller was Dr Richard Tan from Singapore who also brought members of his family to see his old school and the oldest member was Dr Fred Morgan who was Head Boy in 1947. Fred’s brother John and sister Liz were also there. Other siblings included Stan and Eileen Berry and Rosemary and Carol Mapstone (maiden names).
Gavin Ball, the Frome College Principal, is moving on to a new post as Executive Head of the Wessex Learning Trust in Cheddar. The Frome Ex-Students Association (FESA) wished to record its appreciation for his support from 2012 to 2017. He was presented with a framed picture of the school from about 1954, by June Barnes MBE, Chair of FESA. Frome Museum displayed some of their collection about Frome Grammar School and a set of photographs from 1947 were donated by Barbara Rogers. Copies of these were provided for visitors to
write names on. This was also true for a collection of c1960 photos from Stan Berry. These names will be added to the growing on-line store of pictures, which is made available to FESA members.
