FROME Writers’ Collective (FWC) members say that 2022 has seen the group get back to business with the return of their literary events.
Joint chairs Brenda Bannister and Gill Harry report, “After two years of cancelled events and Zoom meetings, it was back to business as usual for FWC in 2022, with a full complement of writers in residence typing stories in Frome’s shops and cafes on the last Saturday of June, and the return of the popular Small Publishers’ Fair at the Silk Mill in July.
“FWC also organised other literary events in Frome Festival, including the annual readers’ and writers’ day, held on the ECOS amphitheatre, which culminates in the prize-giving for the annual short story competition and young writers’ award. Throughout the year, members have enjoyed monthly socials, flash fiction events and an outdoor writing day at Marston Park.
“A collaboration with Frome Museum in June featured one of Frome’s ‘Celebrated Women’, with a library talk by historian David Lassman on Betty Trask, the novelist whose bequest continues to fund an annual Society of Authors’ award in her name, and with a display of Frome’s literary activities across the ages.
“Established in 2014 for the benefit of writers in and around Frome, FWC has grown to a membership of well over 100, reflecting the breadth of writing interests and the depth of literary talent in the town. It provides a network and information service, which helps writers to find and join writing groups, promotes members’ publications through book launches, talks, social media and market stalls, and runs a monthly radio programme on Frome FM.
“FWC also manages Silver Crow Books, a publishing advice, manuscript assessment and quality trademark service for members, which has helped to guide 16 titles into print and looks forward to more in the coming year.
“We always welcome new members and Frome Times readers can find out more about FWC and Silver Crow at the following websites: https://fromewriterscollective.co.uk and https:/ /www.silvercrowbooks. co.uk”
